Skin Clinic Safety in Korea

Korea has a highly developed aesthetic medicine industry — and, like anywhere, the quality varies. This checklist helps you choose with confidence.

Quick answer

Choose a licensed clinic where a named doctor consults and treats you, products are shown or named before use, prices are written down, and aftercare is available after you fly home. Be cautious with unregistered brokers, pressure to buy packages, and clinics that won’t say who will treat you.

Safety checklist

  • Named doctors: can you see who will treat you and their background? (Ours: medical staff.)
  • Doctor-led consultation: the doctor, not a salesperson, recommends treatment.
  • Genuine products: ask the brand and see the sealed product or box where possible.
  • Written quote: brand, dose, VAT and extras on paper — see avoiding unexpected charges.
  • Clear risks: side effects and downtime explained in a language you understand.
  • Aftercare: a way to contact the clinic after you leave Korea.

Red flags

  • Strong pressure to decide or pay for packages on the spot
  • Prices only shared through an agent, never by the clinic
  • Unclear who performs the procedure
  • “Too good to be true” prices for premium brands

Brokers and agents

Korea requires foreign-patient attraction agencies to be registered, and illegal brokering has been the subject of government crackdowns. If you use an agent, check that they’re registered and compare their prices with the clinic’s own published list. See same local prices.

If something doesn’t feel right

Contact your clinic first with photos. For emergencies call 119. The Korea Travel Hotline (1330) offers 24-hour help with interpretation. YAAN Clinic patients can message our coordinator on WhatsApp with questions after treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How can I check a Korean doctor's qualifications?

Ask the clinic for the treating doctor’s name and training, and look for a public staff page. A reputable clinic will tell you exactly who will treat you.

Are products like Botox genuine in Korean clinics?

Reputable clinics use approved products and will tell you the brand. Ask to see it, and be wary of premium brands offered at unusually low prices.

What should I do if I have a reaction after treatment?

Contact your clinic immediately with photos. For severe swelling, breathing difficulty or signs of a serious allergic reaction, call 119 or go to an emergency department.
