The short answer

What is Radiesse, and is it right for you?

Radiesse is a filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a gel. It gives immediate lift and structure, then stimulates collagen; it is not dissolvable like hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers.

At YAAN Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, Radiesse is used mainly for the jawline, chin, cheeks and hands, and typically lasts 12–18 months. You receive a written quote in won at consultation.

How it works

Structure now, collagen later

Day of treatment: scaffold. The gel carries tiny, smooth calcium microspheres into the tissue. Together they give immediate support and contour.

Following weeks: stimulation. As the gel is gradually absorbed, the microspheres remain as a scaffold and prompt the skin to produce its own collagen around them.

Over time: natural breakdown. The calcium particles are slowly broken down by the body into calcium and phosphate, leaving the new collagen behind.

Non-reversible. Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, so the product, amount and placement are agreed carefully before injection. Compare with Sculptra, another collagen stimulator.

How Radiesse works in three stages Three panels: first, calcium microspheres in gel give immediate volume; second, the gel is absorbed and collagen fibres form around the microspheres; third, the microspheres break down and the new collagen remains. 1 · Day 0 2 · Weeks to months 3 · Over time Gel + microspheres immediate structure Gel absorbed collagen forms around CaHA CaHA breaks down new collagen remains

Honest suitability

Who Radiesse suits, and who it doesn't

We would rather tell you what you don't need. These are general guides; your doctor confirms suitability after examining you.

Often a good fit

  • Jawline and chin structure
  • Cheek support
  • Hand rejuvenation
  • Collagen stimulation
  • Longer-lasting results
  • People who want contour on the day, not weeks later

Probably not the first choice

  • Lips or under-eyes, where HA is safer
  • First-time filler patients who want a reversible option
  • Very fine, superficial lines
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infection or cold sores in the area

Treatment areas

Where Radiesse works best

Radiesse is a firm filler placed deep, so it is used where support matters more than softness.

Jawline

Definition

Sharpens the line from chin to angle of the jaw and helps disguise early jowls.

Chin

Projection

Adds length or forward projection to balance the profile. See chin fillers.

Cheeks

Support

Restores mid-face support and softens folds beside the mouth. See cheek fillers.

Hands

Rejuvenation

Replaces lost volume on the backs of the hands so veins and tendons show less.

For lips, see lip fillers; for the eye area, under-eye filler; for the nose, nose fillers; for hollow temples, temple fillers; for smile folds, nasolabial fillers.

Safety

Side effects and risks

Radiesse is approved by the US FDA and has been used for many years. Because it cannot be dissolved, who injects it and how it is placed matter more than with HA fillers.

At YAAN Clinic, filler is planned and injected by physicians, with vein mapping and blunt-tipped cannulas where appropriate.

FAQ

Radiesse questions, answered

What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is an injectable filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel. It gives immediate lift and structure, then stimulates the skin's own collagen as the gel is absorbed.
How long does Radiesse last?
Often 12 to 18 months, depending on the area treated, the amount used and how your body metabolises it.
How much does Radiesse cost in Seoul?
YAAN Clinic gives a written quote in Korean won at consultation, based on the area and the amount needed. For reference, hyaluronic acid fillers at YAAN are ₩290,000 per cc for Korean filler, ₩390,000 for Restylane and ₩490,000 to ₩690,000 for Juvéderm.
Can Radiesse be dissolved?
No. Radiesse cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Only hyaluronic acid fillers can be reversed that way, which is why Radiesse is placed conservatively by an experienced physician and is avoided in the lips and under-eyes.
Radiesse or hyaluronic acid filler: which is better?
They suit different jobs. Radiesse is firmer and stimulates collagen, so it suits the jawline, chin, cheeks and hands. Hyaluronic acid fillers are softer and reversible, so they suit the lips, under-eyes and fine adjustments.
Radiesse or Sculptra?
Both stimulate collagen. Radiesse also gives immediate structure on the day. Sculptra gives no instant volume and builds gradually over a series of sessions. Your doctor recommends one based on whether you need contour now or gradual, global volume.
Where can Radiesse be used?
Most often the jawline, chin, cheeks, nasolabial folds and the backs of the hands. It is not used in the lips or under the eyes.
Does Radiesse hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first, and the product can be used with lidocaine. Most people describe pressure and brief stinging. A cannula may be used to reduce bruising.
Is there downtime after Radiesse?
Swelling, tenderness and possible bruising usually last 1 to 3 days. Most people return to normal activities the same day.
What are the risks of Radiesse?
Common effects are swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness. Less common are lumps or nodules. Rarely, any filler can block a blood vessel, which is a medical emergency; physician-led injection, vein mapping and cannulas are used to reduce this risk.
Will Radiesse show on X-rays or scans?
Yes. The calcium-based particles can be visible on X-ray and CT. It is harmless, but tell your doctor or dentist that you have had Radiesse.
When should I have Radiesse before an event or flight?
Have filler at least 3 to 5 days before photos or flights so swelling settles, and ideally 2 to 3 weeks before an important event.
Will filler make my face look bigger or stiff?
Not when it is planned well. The aim is balance and proportion, adding structure only where it is needed, so natural expression is preserved.
Do the doctors at YAAN Clinic speak English?
Yes. Consultations, treatment plans, prices and aftercare are provided in English at YAAN Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul. You can send questions in advance through the consultation form.
